There are a number of shorter circular routes to see and experience the natural world, both on the coast and inland. Minsmere is acknowledged as one of the most well known of the RSPB’s nature reserves, and should be high on your list, whether visiting in summer or winter. The Suffolk coast is a great place to see a large range of birds at most times of the year. If recent history is your thing, it would be a shame to miss out on Orford Ness National Nature Reserve - where you can wander around some of the unusual test sites and buildings that, until the mid 80s, formed part of a secret military test site.
